I personally review all websites listed in these resources for quality and for relevance for non-profits, small businesses and ESL learners, before I list them. However, a listing does not imply an endorsement of the services or the content on external sites.

If you have a link to suggest for these pages, please see the web building partners page.

If you are looking for help with creating your own website, stay tuned for additions by subscribing to my RSS Feed (see the RSS buttons to your left), or by visiting the Web Content News page often.

Please contact The Website Writer with any comments about any of the resources you find here.

Note: Some of the links on this page will open in a new window. Just close that window to return here to The Website Writer's Web Building Resources.

Free Website Builder Resources

This section features well-established and respected sources for all of the best in free online resources and tools for getting started on web building.
Learning the Basics of Website Building
The place to start is W3C — the World Wide Web Consortium, which has been setting the standards for accessible, standardized html, css, and other Internet technologies since time immemorial.

W3.org offers tutorials for getting started with html and css and for making your pages accessible to people with disabilities. They also have a validation service that will check your code and help you find errors.

Even if you intend to buy web builder software, laying a basic foundation in html coding is essential. Learn it now, and you'll save yourself headaches down the road.

Favourite Free Web Content Sources
The list of possible sources for free web content is infinite. However, simply grabbing and posting freely available content can hurt your rankings in the search engines.

Most free content comes with a price, even if it is not money. For example, anything in the "public domain" (eg., content on government websites) or on the multitude of free article syndication sites is free for your use, but you may pay a price with the search engines if everyone else on the web is also using that specific content.

With any of my service packages, I will identify possible free sources of web content, and with many packages I will provide free web content that will be yours to use exclusively.

I will be expanding this list with both well-known and hidden sources for free web content over time, but for the moment, here are a couple of my favourites sites for finding content, images and other media for your website:

You'll find many more free web building resources and tools for specific aspects of web building in The Website Writer's resource pages devoted to web design and development, SEO, website promotion and web hosting.

Web Design Services and Resources

I can provide basic templates and web design in html and css with my web content provider packages.

If you want to learn about web design and explore some free web design DIY options, (of which there are many), have a look at these Free Web Design Resources.

If you need more technically advanced web design services and technically complex functionality, you might find a Web Design & Development Service here.

Search Engine Optimization Services and Resources

My web content writing always incorporates fundamental elements of search engine optimization to improve your website ranking potential with the major search engines: well-written keyword focussed pages, titles and meta tags.

Get more information about how I approach writing for the web, and the why and how of some basic SEO techniques.

You'll find many free seo tools and tutorials here at website-writer.com, whether you are doing your own search engine optimization or considering hiring an SEO service provider or firm.

The search engine optimization (SEO) services listed here can help with keyword demand and supply analysis, submissions to search engines and directories, and website traffic and page rank monitoring.

Consider the benefits of engaging an SEO expert for the technical tools they can offer, and then engage me as your web content provider for optimizing your on-page content.

Website Promotion and Marketing Resources

SEO services can help with your organic (free) rankings and traffic. Website Promotion and Marketing might involve free and paid advertising and promotion both online and offline.

I provide Web Marketing Strategies that incorporate search engine optimization elements and ideas for free and paid, online and offline promotion and marketing.

While I can help you implement many of the strategies I might recommend, you might want to enlist the services of a Web Promotion and Marketing provider to implement the strategies requiring more advanced technical tools, such as pay-per-click campaign setup, tracking and monitoring, or affiliate program management, for example.

Website Hosting and Domain Name Registration

If you do not yet have a domain name (website address) and/or website host, I strongly recommend that you consider my Web Development Planning service before you choose your host and register a domain name.

The domain name you choose can impact your search engine optimization, as well as how easily your customers, members, and clients will find you.

Many website hosts will offer free domain name registration when you sign up, so you will want these details and a good idea of your overall web development plan before you commit to a website hosting contract.

Once you have a website development plan in place, you may find special website hosting and domain registration packages here in the Web Hosting section.

If you're new to the Internet and the world of website building, I offer a basic Web Hosting Glossary here. You can also try NetLingo, The Internet Dictionary for definitions of online words and phrases you might not find in a conventional dictionary.
